SMS Opt-In & Consent

This page documents how customers of home services contractors using Scout consent to receive text messages, and exactly what they are told at the moment they opt in.

Where consent is collected

Consent is collected by the contractor at the moment a customer asks them for service. There are three points of collection, and the disclosure below is presented at each one:

1. By phone. A customer calls the contractor to book or ask about service. Before ending the call, they are asked whether they would like text updates about their appointment, and the disclosure is read aloud.
2. By text. A customer texts the contractor's published business number. The first reply they receive carries the disclosure in full.
3. By web form. A customer submits a service request on the contractor's website or booking form. The disclosure appears next to the phone number field, with an unchecked consent checkbox the customer must select.

The exact disclosure customers see

This is the verbatim consent language presented at every point of collection:

[Business Name] is replaced with the name of the contractor the customer contacted. Consent is never a condition of purchase, and customers who decline still receive service normally.

What we record

Every opt-in is stored with the disclosure text shown, a timestamp, the channel it was collected on, and the message identifier where applicable. Every opt-out is recorded the same way and honored immediately across all channels.

Opting out

Reply STOP to any message. You will receive one confirmation and no further messages to that number. Reply START to opt back in. We also honor STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, QUIT, OPTOUT, and REVOKE, and we honor plain requests to stop even when they do not use a keyword.

No marketing without separate consent

The messages described on this page are service communications about work a customer has requested. Promotional messages are a separate program requiring separate express written consent, and are never sent to customers who have only opted in here.
